These are not preferences. They are the locked operating standards for every female cosmetic surgery patient at Mayflower Clinic, applied without needing to be requested.
- Discreet first contact. Initial inquiries can begin on WhatsApp or email — no phone call required if you prefer.
- Private consultation room. No shared waiting space at the time of your appointment.
- Female clinical chaperone. Present during every examination, in the room throughout.
- No information sharing. No detail leaves the immediate clinical team without your explicit written consent.
- Records held within the clinic. Not shared with hospitals, insurers, or third parties except where you direct.
- Photographs only if needed — and only of the relevant clinical area, never including identifying features without separate written consent.

What cosmetic gynaecology is — and what it isn't
The field is sometimes called FCGS (Female Cosmetic Genital Surgery) and sometimes aesthetic gynaecology. The label matters less than the honest scope.
What it is
- Surgical and non-surgical care of the vulvar and vaginal area for both functional and aesthetic reasons
- A specialty served by plastic surgeons (M.Ch.) and gynaecologists with additional cosmetic training
- Concerned with comfort, function, appearance, and reconstruction — sometimes one, sometimes several at once
- An area where small procedures can produce meaningful improvements in daily life
- Always patient-led: the decision belongs to you, the surgery follows your priorities, not the surgeon's preferences
What it isn't
- A replacement for your gynaecologist — pregnancy, contraception, infections, and cancer screening remain her domain
- A solution to relationship problems, partner expectations, or external pressure (we will gently push back if that is the only reason given)
- A guarantee of any specific outcome regarding sexual satisfaction or partner experience — those are individual variables outside the scope of any surgery
- An area where "more is better" — restraint and naturalness are the goal
- Something to be ashamed of needing or wanting to discuss
Why women come to Mayflower Clinic

Discomfort with daily activity

Six steps. None of them obligate you to anything beyond the next step. The decision to proceed is taken later, in your own time.
- You reach out — your way. WhatsApp, email, or phone. If you prefer your file to be held under your initials rather than your full name, say so when you message us; that is accommodated.
- Appointment is scheduled at a quiet time. Where possible, your appointment is set at a time when other patients are unlikely to overlap with you in the clinic. You enter and leave with privacy.
- The consultation begins in our private examination room. We talk first — about what brought you here, what you are noticing, what you are hoping to address. No examination yet. No examination unless and until you are ready.
- Examination, only if relevant, with female chaperone present. If physical examination is appropriate to clarify your concern, it is done in the same room with our female clinical assistant present throughout. The examination is brief and explained step by step.
- Options are discussed honestly. Sometimes surgery is the right answer. Sometimes non-surgical management is the right answer. Sometimes "no intervention" is the right answer. We tell you which we think applies and why, with the alternatives.
- You go home and think about it. A written summary of the discussion and (if relevant) a quote follows separately. There is no decision required at the first visit. Many patients return weeks or months later; that is welcome and expected.

How is my privacy protected?
Initial inquiries can be made through WhatsApp or email rather than a phone call. Consultations happen in a private examination room with a female clinical assistant present as chaperone. No information about your consultation, photographs, or surgery is shared outside the immediate clinical team without your explicit written consent. Medical records are stored within the clinic and are not accessible to anyone outside Dr. Shahane and the clinical staff directly involved in your care.
Why an M.Ch. plastic surgeon for this, not a regular gynaecologist?
Gynaecologists are specialists in obstetric and reproductive medicine. Cosmetic gynaecology involves tissue handling, aesthetic judgement, scar minimisation, and reconstructive technique — these are core training areas in plastic surgery. An M.Ch. plastic surgeon is the appropriate specialist for cosmetic and reconstructive procedures of the vulvovaginal area. For pregnancy, contraception, gynaecologic infection, or cancer screening, your gynaecologist remains the right doctor.
Will a female chaperone be present during my consultation and examination?
Yes. A trained female clinical assistant is present during every examination and remains in the room throughout. This is the locked policy at Mayflower Clinic — it does not need to be requested.
Do I have to decide on surgery at the first consultation?
No. A consultation is a conversation, not a commitment. At the first visit, we listen, examine if appropriate, explain the options, and answer your questions. The quote is sent to you separately, and the decision is yours — to take in your time, with whomever you wish to discuss it. Patients often return months later after reflection; that is welcome.
Can my husband or partner attend the consultation?
That is your decision. Some patients prefer to come alone, some with their partner, and some bring a sister, mother or close friend. We accommodate any preference. The clinical examination itself is done with you and the female chaperone in the room; the discussion can include anyone you choose to bring.
Are these procedures only for aesthetic reasons?
No. Many women come for functional reasons — discomfort from elongated labia during exercise or intimate activity, post-childbirth changes affecting comfort, recurrent infections related to anatomical configuration, or reconstructive needs after injury or treatment. Other women come for personal aesthetic considerations after their own reflection. Both reasons are clinically valid and treated with the same respect.
